MOYES HAS NO REGRETS

Hammers are Scot’s sole focus

- Harry PRATT REPORTING By Harry Pratt

THESE days there is only one United for David Moyes. Of course that’swest Ham United, not Manchester United. And that renders all current talk regarding who will be the next Old Trafford manager utterly irrelevant to the Scot.

There is no envy, anger or bitterness at the way his own spell in charge of the Premier League giants – as Sir Alex Ferguson’s immediate hand-picked successor in July 2013 – ended with the sack inside 10 months.

And although it may have taken several years for Moyes – and his damaged reputation as an elite coach – to recover, he is now more than content to be supremo at high-flying West Ham.

Asked if he feels any personal pang of jealousy whenever the Old Trafford managerial post is making headlines, Moyes, 58, said: “No, I had my chance. I didn’t quite reach where I’d like to or get the results I’d like to but that’s been the same with a lot of managers there, some really top, top managers.”

Ahead of today’s league trip to Brentford, Moyes added: “It was an honour to be offered the job but I see this one here atwest Ham as something I’m good at. I can take them in the right direction.

“At Everton, over 10 or 11 years, most of my teams were in the top six, seven or eight every year.

“West Ham would like to be a club doing that every year. We’ve moved quickly to being close to that club. If we can make it into Europe two years in a row, it would be incredible.”

Brentford boss Thomas

Frank admireswest Ham, particularly because they have recently moved to a new stadium, like his Bees.

Frank said: “They’ve embraced the new stadium and that’s what we’ve done.

“They are aiming for Europe every season. I think we’re far off that now but we can dream!”

ERIKSEN WAS A HUGE MISS FOR BIG BOYS

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is one that got away from the big clubs, says David Moyes.

The Denmark midfielder, 30, has made a sensational comeback with Brentford after his cardiac arrest at last year’s Euros.

Released by Inter Milan because he could not play with a heart implant device in Italy, Eriksen (below) was available on a free. And Moyes revealed: “He was mentioned to us and other clubs about coming back.

“But everybody was more unsure back then.

‘‘And to be honest, there’s the huge Danish connection at Brentford with the manager and some of their players.

“He’s an inspiration to so many to keep going and not give up. But I don’t think we ever doubted his footballing ability Everybody recognises he’s a top footballer.”
