Brownhill debt to Dyche

- REPORTING

JOSH BROWNHILL will forever be grateful to former Burnley boss Sean Dyche for giving him the chance to shine in the Premier League. But now the focused midfielder has only one thing on his mind – avoiding relegation!

And after providing both assists in Thursday’s 2-0 home win over Southampton, the former Manchester United young gun knows he can play a key role in the Clarets’ survival bid.

Brownhill said: “For Sean to bring me to the club and make me a Premier League player, I’m really thankful.

“I spoke to him on the phone (after Dyche, below, was sacked). It was emotional when I spoke to him. It’s not nice when somebody has to leave.

“He brought me in from the Championship and he trusted me, playing me away at some big teams, some big grounds and in some big pressure games.

“He was here for 10 years and what he did for the place in general has been huge. No one tries to hide away from what he’s done for the club.

“In my career, I haven’t experienced a sacking or somebody leaving so it was a strange feeling. Unfortunately for him, it was his time but I’m certain he’d get a good job if he wanted.”

Burnley have six games, starting with today’s clash with Wolves, to escape from the bottom three and Brownhill, 26, said: “If you look at the majority of our games, we’ve actually performed very well.

“We’ve had a few points in the last few games and if we continue that I’m sure we’ll be fine.there’s also a sense of calmness at what’s needed – we’ve got the experience of being in this position before.”
