Two good to keep firing blanks

- REPORTING

HARRY KANE and Heung-min Son are simply too good to go without a goal three games on the bounce. That’s the verdict of Tottenham team-mate Ben Davies as the club’s top-four dreams hang in the balance amid the ongoing drought in attack.

Kane and Son have not scored in 180 minutes of action and Antonio Conte’s side have failed to produce a single shot on target in that time.

It leaves Spurs two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the race for the Champions League places.

But ahead of today’s clash with Leicester, defender Davies (below) expressed total faith in Kane and Son. He said: “I’m sure those boys are well aware of what’s been said. But they are world-class players and there’s no doubt in our minds that it’s just one of those things.

‘‘What they’ve done for us in the past few years, and this season as well, we’re not in a position to critique them at all.

“When you have players of that quality, it is only a matter of time.”

Tottenham also possess an elite coach in Conte, with a history of success in crunch situations.

And Davies added: “He’s one of the best coaches in the world and we’re lucky to have him here.

“When you’re on a good run and scoring lots the opposition tend to shore things up. The last two teams put two banks of five and made it very difficult. But that’s another challenge we have to overcome.

“That’s the reality of success. It’s a doubleedged sword. It’s about figuring out a way.”

They will need to if they want their home derby against Arsenal on

May 12 to actually mean something.and for anyone needing extra motivation to be back among Europe’s elite, Manchester City’s seven-goal Champions League thriller with Real Madrid last week provided it.

Davies said: “Those are the games you want to be involved in. That’s the pinnacle and everyone watches these type of Champions League games.

“A couple of months ago, not many gave us much hope of getting near it but we’ve now given ourselves every opportunity.”
