HARLEM’S PRIDE IN A FAMILY TRADITION

- By Tom Hopkinson

HARLEM EUBANK plans to make a statement in Newcastle on Saturday that will set him up for a shot at the British title.

The cousin of Chris Eubank Jr was due to meet Tom Farrell but will now face Mexican Eliot Chavez after the Liverpudlian was ruled out with Covid.

But whoever is staring him down when the bell sounds, Eubank, 28, wants this fight to set him up for a shot at a belt which means so much to his family.

He said: “The British title would mean a lot to me. My uncle, Chris Snr, always placed a lot of prestige on the Lonsdale belt.

“I was ringside to see my cousin Chris lift the British title and I am ready now to do the same. It’s just a matter of time until I become the next Eubank to conquer the British title.

“I’m targeting the top names in the division.

“I am confident I can beat anyone at British domestic level – It’s now time to make a mark in this division.”

Eubank’s 14 wins as a pro include six KOS, although he insists: “In terms of KO records, I’m not really looking into that.

“Records don’t necessarily mean anything. It’s all about going in there with a clear mind and not really trying to look to knock someone out but looking to box and create the opportunities.

“The opportunities present themselves naturally, and that’s where I will get the KO.

“It’s all about fighting my fight, and if I do so I’ll get to show people another glimpse of my ability and the different components of my game.

“It’s about focusing on performing to the best of my ability.

“I’m confident in what

I’m doing and how I’m doing it, and I’m just looking to seize every moment inside the ring.”
