Grannie, thank you...

- By Marco Giannangeli

PRINCESSES Beatrice and Eugenie paid a heartfelt tribute to their “dearest Grannie”.

Explaining they had “not been able to put much into words” since the Queen’s death, they remembered the vital role she had played in their lives.

“There have been tears and laughter, silences and chatter, hugs and loneliness, and a collective loss for you, our beloved Queen and our beloved Grannie,” said the sisters in an emotional letter posted by the official website of the Royal Family.

“We, like many, thought you’d be here forever. And we all miss you terribly.

“You were our matriarch, our guide, our loving hand on our backs leading us through this world.you taught us so much and we will cherish those lessons and memories forever.”

And they recalled happier times picking raspberries.

“Thank you for making us laugh, for including us, for picking heather and raspberries, for marching soldiers, for our teas, for comfort, for joy.you, being you, will never know the impact you have had on our family and so many people around the world,” they said.

“We’re so happy you’re back with Grandpa. Goodbye dear Grannie, it has been the honour of our lives to have been your granddaughters and we’re so very proud of you.

“We know that dear Uncle Charles, the King, will continue to lead in your example as he too has dedicated his life to service.”

The sisters were seen visibly distraught in recent days as they walked hand-in-hand while looking at the flowers and messages left by well-wishers.they have shared a close bond with their doting grandmother who ensured she could attend Beatrice’s wedding to Italian property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020, by holding it at the Royal Chapel of All Saints on the Windsor estate, where the Queen often attended services.

Concerned that Beatrice was missing out on a proper wedding because of the Covid restrictions, the Queen even generously lent her own tiara and vintage dress to make the day extra special.

Though only ninth in line to the throne, Princess Beatrice has now joined Princewilliam, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew to become one of four Counsellors of State, a position reserved for the spouse of the sovereign and the next four people in the line of succession who are over 21.

The sisters also shared a previously unseen photo, which showed the

Queen as they remembered her – a devoted and loving grandmother. Her Majesty is seen smiling towards the camera with a dog on her lap, which the young princesses are stroking.

It is not the first time private photos of Her Majesty have emerged. In 2020 Beatrice’s husband shared a number of pictures on their wedding day. One showed the Queen and Prince Philip, while others showed Her Majesty driving as a young woman and surrounded by her beloved corgis.

Princess Eugenie previously spoke of the Queen’s love of having her family join her at the Balmoral estate. “I think Grannie is the most happy there,” she said.
