What was your first TV memory?
Watching The Generation Game with my family. I never understood it, but my dad used to watch it and it was nice to watch it with him. He never had time to sit and watch much.
What was your first TV appearance?
That was on Bake Off. I’d never done anything like it before. I found watching yourself on television was shockingly difficult. I’m very self-critical. After that I did Chronicles Of Nadiya where I went back to Bangladesh. It was totally different; it was the first time I ever travelled and filmed on my own – a real baptism of fire.
Who was your first TV crush?
Kevin Richardson from the Backstreet Boys. I liked him because nobody else did. I liked a lost soul.
What is your favourite current show?
I love watching Only Murders In The Building with my little girl. It’s a really easy watch, a bit like Scooby-doo.
Which TV show would you take to a desert island?
This Is Us! Oh but no, because that would probably make me sad… but yes, I’d take that. It’s so slow to watch, I loved it.
What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?
Nine Perfect Strangers. It was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. This deranged woman, played by Nicole Kidman, takes nine people to her wellness resort and tries to feed them drugs. I didn’t get it.
Guiltiest TV pleasure?
I don’t think any pleasures should be guilty ones. I do love watching Gogglebox; there’s something about watching other people watch TV. And I love Denise Van Outen and her accent and the things she says.
What are you up to at the moment?
My book is just out so I’m very busy with that; it’s such a lovely thing to do, and my new cooking show has started on BBC Two.
