RAMM’S DIVINE FOR THE SAINTS
ANTHONY WATSON completed 80 minutes on his latest comeback but LEICESTER boss Richard Wigglesworth was fuming after the 19-18 home defeat by NORTHAMPTON SAINTS.
Watson had not played for a month due to injury but could now feature for England in the Six Nations.
James Ramm’s moment of magic set up a try for Saints wing Ollie Sleightholme which was the game-breaker but
Tigers chucked it away.
It also ruined the farewell party for Freddie Burns, who went off injured an hour into his last game for the club before moving to New Zealand.
Leicester, who have seven players away with England, were left to lick their wounds and Wigglesworth said: “There were too many errors and we let them back into the game. To be consistent you need a consistent team and we have not had that.”
Full-back Ramm’s outrageous offload for Saints’ only try made up for his second-minute sinbinning for a high shot on two-try Harry Potter.
And it rewarded a gutsy defensive display as Northampton managed the loss of personnel better – they have five with England.
Boss Phil Dowson said: “The lads who came in were outstanding. We have not been good away from home.”
Tigers led 10-3 thanks to wing Potter’s first try but gifted George Furbank two penalties to cut that gap to one point at half-time.
Furbank kicked his side ahead before Potter’s second try, then Ramm’s magic moment sealed it.
The other Premiership games saw leaders SARACENS just about edge their top-v-bottom clash with BRISTOL 20-19, while EXETER are third after a 24-17 victory over GLOUCESTER.
