Eubank Jr plotting his way back to top

- By Tom Hopkinson

CHRIS EUBANK JR will seek the advice of trainer Roy Jones Jr as he looks to resurrect his career.

The 33-year-old is on holiday after suffering a brutal knockout against

Liam Smith in Manchester last weekend.

But when he returns he is planning a get-together with Jones Jr to decide which road to redemption he must take.

Eubank Jr must decide whether or not to call it a day or box on, with potential clashes against

Smith, again, or Conor Benn in the pipeline.

He was set to fight Benn last October but the clash between the sons of two boxing legends was postponed after Benn returned a positive test for a banned substance.

Benn denies any wrongdoing and further developments are expected in his battle to prove his innocence this week.

In the meantime, Eubank Jr (below) will have a frank conversation with Jones Jr to decide his next move.

And that could see him invoke the rematch clause he had in the contract for last week’s fight against Smith, when the Scouser stopped him in the fourth round.

Meanwhile, Tommy Fury and Jake Paul came face-to-face in London last night after finally agreeing to fight in Saudi Arabia at the end of February.

Their agreement to fight in the Middle East has prompted suggestions from some commentators that their deal to fight there could be part of an agreement for big brother Tyson Fury to meet Oleksandr Usyk in the same country later this year.

Light-heavyweight Tommy, 23, is set to trouser more than £2million for what will be only his ninth professional outing.

Although that sum will be pocket change compared with what Tyson, 34, will earn whether his battle, which is set for April 29, takes place in Saudi or at Wembley Stadium.

Tyson’s UK promoter Frank Warren had hoped to announce the undisputed heavyweight championship fight last week, but final negotiations are still being thrashed out.

Warren said: “We are working very hard to make this fight happen with Usyk.

“All parties are really trying to get this done and find the best venue.”
