Klopp left red-faced by defence disaster

- ARMITAGE REPORTING FROM MOLINEUX ATT:

NEXT up it’s Everton for Jurgen Klopp’s creaking Red machine – and they can’t be looking forward to that one bit. The blue half of Merseyside enjoyed their early kick-off victory over league leaders Arsenal for main course and then tuned into this for dessert.

Liverpool have now conceded more goals than in all of last season’s campaign and they are without a league win this year.

They were two goals behind with only 12 minutes gone and it could have been worse.this just isn’t supposed to be happening.

Asked if he was the man to steer the club back on course, Klopp responded: “Yes, absolutely – absolutely.

“Today was the pinnacle of our problems. The start was horrible. Absolutely not what we wanted to do. First 12 minutes, two down, it’s not allowed to happen.

“We were passive.we caused our own misery with the first 12 minutes. I’m so disappointed and angry, I can’t find the words.”

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui saw his club climb to 15th. He said: “They are one of the best teams in the world. It’s normal that you are going to suffer but in the end we got the third goal – and control.and in the end, we deserved to win.”

Liverpool got in a tangle with just a few minutes on the clock and suddenly it all got a bit nervy.

Three minutes in and Alisson got his fingers warmed when he had to move sharply to deal with a snapshot from Matheus Cunha.

Liverpool’s defence continued to judder and the home side finally cracked it open in the fifth minute when Pablo Sarabia looped a clever ball over the top to send Hee-chan Hwang away down the right.

Hwang rifled a low shot goalwards from a tight angle and if it wasn’t going in, Joel Matip made sure it did.

The Reds defender couldn’t do anything about it as Hwang’s shot struck his outstretched leg to divert it into his own net.

Seven minutes laterwolves doubled their advantage and, again, Klopp’s men were all over the place. Max Kilman’s header from eight yards was blocked and debutant Craig Dawson took things into his own hands and smashed the loose ball into the roof of the net.

Liverpool came more and more into the game but Ruben Neves sealed it in the second half after good work from sub Adama Traore.
