CROWNING GLORY
Caring side of William and Diana on show in latest shoot for TV hit
HOME HELPS: Royals sell magazine in the next series of The Crown
SHE was the People’s Princess and her compassion for those in need has gone on to inspire her eldest sonwilliam.
Now Diana’s work with the homeless is being captured in scenes for the new series of The Crown.
And the popular Netflix drama will reflect how it went on to hugely influence the heir to the throne.
Cameras were rolling outside an underground station in Canary Wharf, east London, last week as filming continued on the final season of the royal saga.
And photos show actress Elizabeth Debicki, who plays the late Princess, selling a magazine for the homeless with actor Ed Mcvey, who portrays the Prince.
It is a nod to the incredible moment William helped to sell copies of Big Issue magazine in the capital last year.
Wearing a red vendor’s vest and baseball cap and official accreditation on his chest, the
Prince sold 32 copies in less than an hour while on the streets of Victoria, London.
He joined Dave Martin, who had volunteered to show him the ropes and the pair spent the time outside a Sainsbury’s Local supermarket – just a 10-minute walk from Buckingham Palace.
The Prince of Wales has always been passionate about his work with the homeless.
As a boy, his mother took him and brother Harry to meet rough sleepers so they could see modern-day poverty first hand.
The childhood experiences stayed with him and led towilliam taking over as homeless charity Centrepoint’s patron in 2005.
Diana was “always supportive and very enthusiastic” about the Big Issue, said John Bird, its founder and editor-in-chief.
He added: “Whenever she saw a seller she would always buy a copy. Prince William has also been very supportive.”
Explaining why he became a vendor in an article for the magazine, william said: “I was 11 when I first visited a homeless shelter with my mother, who in her own inimitable style was determined to shine a light on an overlooked, misunderstood problem.
“I wanted to experience the other side and see what it was like to be a Big Issue vendor. My time was truly eye-opening.”
The Prince added: “In the years ahead, I hope to bring George, Charlotte and Louis to see the fantastic organisations doing inspiring work to support those most in need – just as my mother did for me.”
