Hotel of the week Ty Hotel Milford Waterfront Milford Haven Pembrokeshire

- BY ABIGAIL NICHOLSON

WHERE AND WHY

Nestled in an idyllic hook-shaped marina surrounded by bustling independent shops, restaurants and cafes, the Ty Hotel Milford Waterfront brings something new to the table.

From our deluxe room with floor-to-ceiling windows at the four-star hotel, part of the Celtic Collection, we could see hundreds of sailboats and even a family of swans.

The spacious room, with a modern and industrial feel, was complete with a TV, desk and an immaculate en-suite with full bath and rainfall shower overhead. Guests will find white fluffy towels, refreshments and Elemis products that leave you smelling like you’ve just walked out of a spa.

The brand new 100bedroom development was divisive when plans were first submitted, but now gives the area a real buzz.

ON THE MENU

The hotel restaurant Dulse, named after a variety of seaweed that grows around the Pembrokeshire coast, boasts multiple menus including lunch, a la carte and afternoon tea.

Supervisor Levi told me they try to change the menu every three months to include ingredients that are in season.

We enjoyed tasty starters of Glamorgan sausage with Caerphilly cheese and leek (£8.25), and rich beef cheek and Perl Las cheese croquettes (£9.95). For mains we had melt-in-your-mouth market fish (haddock) in Tenby Harbwr beer batter with chunky chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce (£17.50), and Welsh pork belly with celeriac, apple, black pudding and mash (£19.95) – all delicious. We had no room left for dessert due to the generous portion sizes.

Breakfast features a hot buffet with the usual suspects and eggs cooked to order – functional and tasty, but you might expect something a bit more special from a hotel of this standard. Cereals, fruit, pastries and vegan options were also available.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE

Take time for yourself in the hotel’s activity centre complete with a gym or visit Milford Haven Museum and shop at Milford Marina.

We battled the elements to visit The Harbourmaster bar and restaurant where we were blown away by the tantalising halloumi fries, excellent cocktails and customer service that went the extra mile.
