Rishi must show us results soon to win
RISHI Sunak’s response to the migrant crisis could make or break his premiership.the Prime Minister has no reluctance to talk tough. He understands that Britain cannot pretend to have taken control of its borders when thousands of people arrive here illegally each year and avoid deportation.
Mr Sunak is also aware that citizens throughout the country – people whom he must convince to vote Conservative if he is to stay in Number 10 – are outraged at the failure so far to stop the Channel crossings.
If the number of people entering the UK unlawfully plummets on his watch he can point to this achievement on the campaign trail. If it remains stubbornly high voters will conclude he has failed.
To persuade voters to give the Conservatives a fifth term, he must deliver tangible achievements on other fronts too.
NHS waiting lists, currently in excess of 7.2 million, must be slashed.as we reveal today, private health cover has nearly doubled since the pandemic began.this suggests people are losing faith in our over-stretched health service.
Mr Sunak would also benefit by showing his steel in stopping the advance of “wokeness”. Conservative voters want a leader who shares their values and defends them with vigour.
The PM has an impressive work ethic but he has little time to deliver the results upon which he will be judged.
Voters want visible results and will not be won over by notional improvements in our
GDP alone. He must tackle the crises confronting our country and unlock a better future for us all.
