- GARRY BUSHELL

Manchester-born Gary, 65, is a former Radio One DJ and Top Of The Pops TV presenter, who hosts Sounds Of The 80s on BBC Radio 2.

What was your first TV memory?

Watching The Morecambe & Wise Show with my family and absolutely loving Eric and Ernie. It was genius. I still love them. Plus Top Of The Pops and later, Dallas.

Who was your first TV crush?

Joanna Lumley. I absolutely loved her as Purdey in The New Avengers. She had an amazing blonde bob. Definitely my first crush.

What was your first TV appearance?

Top Of The Pops in December 1982. It was the scariest thing I’d ever done. Peter Powell introduced three new DJS that night – me, Pat Sharp and Janice Long – and I was absolutely petrified.

What is your favourite current show?

House Of The Dragon. Game Of Thrones is the greatest TV show ever and so I was nervous about a prequel, but they did it really well. It had the same vibe as Game Of Thrones and felt like a natural progression.

Which TV show would you take to a desert island?

It’d either be The Sopranos, Breaking Bad or Game Of Thrones. It’s very hard to pick but I’d probably go for Game Of Thrones because of the complexity.

What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?

I’m not a massive fan of soaps, but some of the daytime quiz shows are worse. Not The Chase though. Brad is the best quiz show presenter on TV.

Guiltiest TV pleasure?

I absolutely adore Love Island.

What are you up to at the moment?

Going on tour with the most fun live show! It’s like my radio show but in theatres. I did the first one in December, broadcast live from a beautiful theatre in Stoke. It’s a massive 80s party every night.
