‘There’s no shame in divorce,’ says happily married Gabby

- By Graeme Culliford

GABBY LOGAN has called for stigma to be taken out of divorce, saying it is wrong for people to feel like failures.

THETV presenter, who has been with her husband Kenny for 23 years, believes men and women should stop feeling “shame” when a marriage ends.

Gabby turned 50 last Monday and says the landmark birthday has encouraged her to reassess her life and take a midlife

“gap year”.

She said: “I was talking to someone about divorce the other day. It was a woman who said,

‘Oh, it’s a shame’.

“I said, ‘If you’ve been married 25 years, you’ve given it a good go’. I think there’s too much shame around divorce. A lot of it is unnecessary.

“You don’t want to hurt other people and you want your children to be happy – and it’s a very emotional time – but it doesn’t have to be shrouded in shame as well, and this idea that you have failed.”

Speaking onthe Mid-point podcast she hosts, the mother-of-two who is happily married to former Scotland rugby star Kenny, 51, said: “My mum used to always say to me, ‘Jealousy is a wasted emotion’. “And she’s right – it doesn’t do anything for anybody.thankfully, I don’t have any of that in my relationship with my husband.”

Gabby says she has been daydreaming of taking a “mid-life gap year” to celebrate reaching the half-century mark.

With holidays lined up, she jokes she aims to imitate the former presenter oftv travel show Wish You Were Here. “I have always wanted to be Judith Chalmers,” said Gabby.

The star has also resumed golf lessons as she braces herself for empty nest syndrome when the 17-year-old twins she had through IVF leave home.

Son Reuben has aped his dad by signing with Northampton Saints and will move an hour-and-a-half away. Daughter Lois is planning to take a gap year after A-levels but is then expected to go to university.
