KATY Perry wasn’t the only celebrity finding it hard to keep her feet on the ground after being invited to such an auspicious occasion. The pop star, 38, who is singing at tonight’s Coronation Concert, nearly toppled in her lilacvivienne Westwood creation and then couldn’t find her seat in the Abbey.

Elsewhere, ant & Dec, who are ambassadors for the Prince’s Trust, were bursting with excitement.

Dec, 47, joked: “I’m hoping to recruit someone for the next series of I’m a Celebrity!” He added: “Getting an invitation was surreal. I thought it was a wind-up! I thought it’s our time to be wound up, and this was it. But here we are, and I can’t quite believe it.”

And extrovert Dame Emma Thompson, 64, flashed a peace sign while Gyles Brandreth, 75, took selfies with a policewoman.

More refined were Kate’s family, including sister Pippa Matthews, 39, and mother Carole, 68.

Dame Joanna Lumley, 77, a friend of Charles, said afterwards: “(TV) viewers may well have seen more of the ceremony than we did...we couldn’t see much.”

Other Abbey guests included Joan Armatrading, 72, who works with the Prince’s Trust and The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades, 53, in his trademark flat cap, who helps National Lottery Good Causes.

Former children’s TV presenter Baroness Floella Benjamin, 73, had a role in the ceremony while singer Nick Cave, 65, was seen with the former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowanwilliams, 72.Also on the guest list was Lionel Richie, 73, who is taking part in tonight’s concert, on BBC One from 8pm.
