Breakfast TV sofa’s so good for host Steve

- By Marc Baker

HE MAY have just landed a plum presenting role on This Morning, but Steve Jones has told how he was forced to quit LA after work dried up.

The Welsh star proved an instant hit with viewers by setting housewives’ temperatures racing following his presenting debut on ITV’S flagship daytime programme last Wednesday.

They took to Twitter calling for the former model to become a permanent fixture on the sofa.

The 46-year-old is among a new batch of stars joining the show following the departure of Phillip Schofield.

But Steve is the first to admit his break may never have come his way if he had not decided to quit life in the US after his bid to find fame flopped.

“I did not want to stay in LA any longer because I was not getting the job offers that I wanted,” said Steve, whose

American dreams came crashing down in 2011 after his disastrous stint presenting The X Factor USA – he was dropped after just one series.

“I did not want to end up one of those dead-behind-the-eyes people wandering around going ‘It could still happen’. It was like a sharp shock, like the world was telling me ‘Go home’.

The LA move came after seven years on Channel 4 teen show T4, which he presented with Miquita Oliver.

In 2013 he met food photographer Phylicia Jackson at Hollywood private members’ club Soho House.

Steve said: “When it did not work out in America I said to Phylicia ‘I need to go home for my career but I don’t want to leave you.

“Will you come with me?’. She said ‘Yes’. We got married about a year after that.

“It has been awesome ever since and it has been the best thing I have

ever done.”
