Jackie Chambers

- GARRY BUSHELL

Leeds-born Jackie, 59, is lead guitarist with all-female hard rock band Girlschool, best known for their Top 5 hit with Motorhead, Please Don’t Touch.

What was your first TV memory?

70s shows like Rainbow, Magpie and HOW. I used to love the Banana Splits – people in animal costumes playing music, including Fleegle the dog with a lisp. I wonder if that’s why I got into rock.

Who was your first TV crush?

This is embarrassing. I had pictures of Jack Lord – Steve Mcgarrett from Hawaii Five-o – on my bedroom wall. My mum reminded me! I liked Donny Osmond and the Bay City Rollers too – I had a tartan dress.

What was your first TV appearance?

I was on Granada’s Look North in the audience for Soft Cell at The Warehouse in my goth days. But as a musician I was in a band called Virago on 5’s Company with Esther Mcvey in 1997.

What is your favourite current show?

Would I Lie To You? I love it! Lee Mack and David Mitchell are just hilarious. They’re so quick and sharp. Bob Mortimer is always a brilliant guest. Also Wednesday on Netflix.

Which TV show would you take to a desert island?

Same answer! It’d have to be a comedy to keep my spirits up and nothing is funnier right now than Would I Lie To You?

What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?

The soaps. They’ve had their day. They’re so depressing now – it must affect our national psyche.

Guiltiest TV pleasure?

Homes Under The Hammer. I quite like that Girlschool songs keep appearing on it. Also right now the women’s football – I’d love to play walking football – and Escape To The Country.

What are you up to at the moment?

I’m promoting two new albums. Girlschool’s Wtfortyfive? and Syteria World by my own punkier band Syteria which came out on Friday.

Wtfortyfive? By Girlschool and Syteria’s Syteria World are on sale now.
