SARR KICK-STARTS A NEW DAWN

- Tony BANKS REPORTS FROM TOTTENHAM STADIUM

STRAP yourselves in, Tottenham fans. Life under Ange Postecoglou is not going to be dull. If anyone was wondering what things were going to be like at Tottenham Hotspur AH (after Harry), then the answer is – harum scarum.there will be plenty of exciting, attacking football but boy, will there be some chewed fingernails.

It was Pape Sarr who grabbed the opener last night – just 24 hours after Harry Kane had opened his account for Bayern – and it rewarded a display that saw Spurs fight their way into a game they had earlier been woeful in.

Postecoglou hailed his team’s ability to fight their way back. He said: “I like the fact that we hung in there and worked our way into the game. In the second half it showed the team we want to be.”

And he had praise for goalscorer Sarr when he added: “Pape has been great since I have been here. He has got a great attitude.”

As for Erik ten Hag’s United, they created plenty of chances, but missed them all.

Ten Hag said: “Pressure is something we have to deal with. We have to have belief.we caused them real problems but we didn’t score. In the second half we had to keep our focus – and we didn’t.”

Around 200 fans protested outside the ground before kick off against Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and the raising of ticket prices, with banners proclaiming “Greed is a choice” and chants of “I’m Tottenham ’til I’m skint.”

It was the only blot on a fine evening for the club.

Ten Hag’s side took charge early on and Antony flashed his shot over the bar before

Alejandro Garnacho saw his drive saved. Marcus Rashford then forced Guglielmovicario to pull off a fine save before missing a golden chance, nodding Bruno Fernandes’ cross over the bar.

Fernandes himself should have put United ahead, nodding a glorious opportunity wide.

Spurs hit back as Porro smacked the bar with his shot before Sarr’s cross then deflected off Luke Shaw into the post.

Three minutes after half-time Spurs were ahead. Dejan Kulusevski’s low cross looped up off Martinez and there was Sarr at the far post to ram the ball home.

Fernandes then put Antony clear but his curling shot hit the post.

Casemiro sawvicario tip over his header and the keeper pulled off another save in the final minute, pushing Raphaelvarane’s header on to the bar.

Tottenham’s second goal came when substitute Ivan Perisic crossed low, Ben Davies took a swing and his touch flicked in off Martinez.

Back to the drawing board, Erik.
