Rayner reported over ‘pint-size’ jibe at Rishi

- By David Williamson POLITICAL EDITOR

BRITAIN’S tallest MP has lodged a complaint with the Speaker after Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner called Rishi Sunak a “pint-sized loser”.

Daniel Kawczynski, who at 6ft 9in has staked a claim to be the tallest parliamentarian in history, was outraged at the Shadow Levelling Up Secretary’s description of the 5ft 6in Prime Minister.

He said: “I have many, many adjectives which are conjured up in my mind which I would like to call Angela Rayner publicly but I don’t because of a sense of civility and responsibility to young people who are watching television.

“I think the fact she called him a ‘pintsized loser’ is highly inappropriate and I’ve gone to see the Speaker,” he added.

Ms Rayner made her comments when standing in for Sir Keir Starmer at Prime Minister’s Questions. She accused Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden of working to oust former PM Boris Johnson, saying: “Has he finally realised that when he stabbed Boris Johnson in the back to get his mate into No 10, he was ditching their biggest election winner for a pint-sized loser?”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is thought to be almost the same height as the Prime

Minister. Mr Kawczynski, Tory MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham said: “Perhaps if she’s elected as the Deputy Prime Minister and she sees Scholz she will call him pintsized. Look, it’s appalling behaviour and I just wanted to get it on the record.”

Mr Sunak has joked about his height, reportedly saying that after the fall of Liz Truss, Britain went “from the shortest-serving Prime Minister to the shortest”. During the Tory leadership contest he quipped that many people told him: “Wow, you’re even shorter in real life.”

And last week Home Secretary James Cleverly also poked fun at the PM’S stature and wealth.

He said Mr Sunak had looked him in the eye – but had to stand on his wallet to do so.
