Wonderful Olise lets Eagles soar to new heights

Wolves 1 C Palace 3

- By John Richardson

IT was the joy of six for Oliver Glasner’s flying Eagles who also helped themselves to a club record.

This emphatic Molineux win, with Michael Olise centre stage, continued an impressive six-game unbeaten run which has yielded 16 points.

The three-goal show took them to 52 points – a record haul for Palace in the Premier League.

Having substitute Naouirou Ahamada sent off for two yellow cards at the end didn’t spoil their day, either.

Olise, fresh from tormenting Manchester United in Monday night’s 4-0 crushing, continued in the same vein against Gary O’neil’s side.

Glasner admitted that it’s up in the air whether Palace can hang on to the matchwinning forward.

Glasner said: “He is a brilliant player, a great guy. He also benefits from other players.

“He has the quality to find the right pass. He scores goals. All the players support each other. It’s important that we keep the structure.

“There were a lot of brilliant players today.”

Olise had, along with partner-in-crime Eberechi Eze, missed two presentable chances before lighting up the game with a stunning 27th-minute finish.

Some pinball passes on the edge of the Wolves area ended with Adam Wharton finding Olise who still had plenty to do, cutting in before unleashing a wonderful curling strike past Dan Bentley who had been pressed into service when first-choice keeper Jose Sa fell ill during the warm-up.

Two minutes later Bentley was beaten again, this time after Olise had been the instigator, a carefully chipped ball into Nathaniel Clyne resulting in a fierce shot against the post and Jean-philippe Mateta stroking the rebound home for his 13th Premier League goal of the season.

For once Wolves were on the right end of a VAR decision as they grabbed a goal back. Hee-chan Hwang was adjudged to be offside as he crossed for Matheus Cunha (left) to smash past Dean Henderson. Stockley Park eventually deemed the South Korean was on-side.

But the home joy was shortlived, as Olise sent Eze clear to round Bentley and prod the ball home.

O’neil admitted:

“I’m really disappointed, the most I’ve been after that first half. We beat ourselves, really.”
