‘I’m excited to help raise awareness of the work’
KING Charles and David Beckham “compared beekeeping tips” as the former England captain was named an ambassador for the King’s Foundation.
In photos released to mark yesterday’s announcement, the pair are pictured smiling and joking on the doorstep of royal residence Highgrove, while others show the former footballer trying his hand at carpentry in front of foundation students taking part in woodworking courses at the Snowdon School of Furniture.
It comes as speculation over whether Beckham will receive a knighthood from His Majesty continues to swirl. He received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2003 but has been snubbed since.
He met the King at the royal gardens of Highgrove to learn more about the charity’s work. He also spoke with embroidery students enrolled on the Métiers d’art Embroidery Fellowship, delivered in partnership with Chanel and LE19M.
Beckham said: “I’m excited to be working with the King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work.
“I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the foundation’s education programmes and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature.”
The foundation, founded by Charles in 1986, aims to educate and provide holistic solutions to challenges facing the world. It offers education programmes and courses focused on heritage and craft skills at Highgrove.
Based at Dumfries House, in East Ayrshire, it aims to revitalise communities through urban regeneration, aid sustainable food production and teach rural skills.
