What to do in the garden this week

Deadhead roses now their first flush is over and follow up with a dose of rose food. Water it in unless there is plenty of rain to do it for you.

Thin out rows of carrots, pulling out alternate roots to eat now or grate into salads, leaving the rest to grow larger.

Start harvesting the first early varieties of garlic while the foliage is still green, to use as “wet” garlic (as it’s known in greengrocers). It can’t be stored now, so leave the rest in the ground to grow and ripen.
