Dr Rosemary Leonard MBE is a GP with many years’ experience working in London’s top teaching hospitals

Both my children recently had small purply-red spots on their face after a vomiting bug. The spots are fading but should I be worried? Violent retching can cause tiny blood vessels in the skin to burst, leaving tiny spots, like miniature bruises. More common in children, the spots mostly occur around the

mouth but may appear round the neck. As long as they don’t appear after vomiting has stopped, don’t worry. But if similar spots appear anywhere else, get advice.

Contact Dr Leonard at S Magazine, One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5AP, or email dr.leonard@ express.co.uk. Dr Leonard regrets that she cannot reply personally to letters. Read her column every Tuesday in the Daily Express
