Doctor, doctor
Dr Rosemary Leonard MBE is a GP with many years’ experience working in London’s top teaching hospitals
I’ve had heavy periods and my doctor thinks I have fibroids. But a recent blood test showed I have a raised Ca125 level, which can be linked to ovarian cancer. I’m waiting for a pelvic scan, but I’m really concerned. Ca125 is a protein in the blood, and it’s true that levels can be raised where some cancers are present, but the levels can also be raised during menstruation. Hopefully, your doctor should have arranged for your scan to be done quickly, and this will put your mind at rest.
