Head On: Rugby, Dementia & Me Wednesday, 9pm, BBC Two
Former Rugby World Cup winner Steve Thompson was diagnosed with probable chronic traumatic encephalopathy in 2020, which is thought to be caused by repeated blows to the head. Now, at the age of 44, he has to live with early-onset dementia.
Filmed over a year, the documentary follows the father-of-four as he meets with brain experts, talks to former rugby players, and questions the rugby authorities’ current procedures to prevent head injuries during contact in training and matches.
