When I needed her most, my best friend ignored me

-

My oldest friend stopped talking to me the day I was diagnosed with a serious illness. While others drove me to hospital appointments and helped out, she and her husband ignored me.

Now I’m better, she’s texted suggesting we ‘meet up’. I’m so angry and hurt. Where was she when I needed her most? What should I do? Should I let her back into my life?

It’s often said that we only discover who our true friends are in troubled times. Sadly, your friend chose to duck out while you were ill.

There could have been all sorts of reasons for that, from a fear of hospitals to simply not being interested.

To my mind, this is a good time to sever the connection. She wasn’t there for you on any level when it mattered and would probably act the same way again. Instead, focus on those who were there for you and went the extra mile. And don’t feel too guilty about it.
