Why won’t she share her gossip?

-

I wear my heart on my sleeve. I’m very honest about my husband’s drinking and my daughter’s issues with food. Every time I see my oldest friend she says, “Tell me all the goss.” But it’s gradually dawning on me that she has never told me anything personal or negative about herself or her family.

I know she gossips about my troubles with mutual friends because word gets back to me. Don’t you think it’s sneaky of

her to hold her cards so closely to her chest when I am so open? Don’t forget that you choose to open up to your friend. She’s not obliged to tell you anything.

I urge you to slow down and take stock. How do your husband and daughter feel about you discussing their personal struggles?

I know it’s often helpful to let off steam, but are you guilty of crossing a line? Are they getting all the help and support they need? Would your time be better spent consulting Al-anon (al-anonuk.org.uk) and Beat (beateatingdisorders.org.uk)?
