I get a runny nose and itchy eyes for weeks at this time of year. There’s no pollen around to trigger hay fever, so what could it be? Summer hay fever is caused by an allergic reaction to pollen. However, the same symptoms can occur at other times of the year with allergies to different things.

Mould can be the culprit. If yours is an old property, have the walls checked for damp. Take a daily antihistamine to relieve symptoms and use a steroid nasal spray.
