Should I whip up support for sick pal?

-

My neighbour has cancer. I pop over with hot food. I also dog sit whenever her husband drives her to appointments.

Recently she was asleep and he broke down. He wept that he’s upset other friends (and even relatives) have abandoned them. People he thought of as lifelong pals haven’t even bothered to phone, let alone visit.

He’s grateful to me but feels let down and bitter. Should I quietly start ringing my

friends in order to drum up interest?

Don’t do anything without running it by him first. He may have been feeling overwhelmed and simply letting off steam. Pick the right moment and ask him if there is anything he’d like you to do. Would he be happy with you organising aid from within your own circle?

It’s disappointing when we don’t get the consideration or love we expect. Sadly, some people do run a mile when illness is mentioned. Suggest he checks out macmillan.org.uk (0808 808 0000) for support.
