Don’t try to sugar it

-

With reference to your article (“Festive treat with 20 spoons of sugar”, November 25) I must say I appreciate both sides of the argument.

While these treats are high in sugar and therefore high in calories, they are, of course, intended to be just that – a seasonal treat and not something to be enjoyed on a daily basis.

However when it comes to daily food choices I believe that a levy should be placed on unhealthy foods, making it cheaper and more beneficial to choose better options.

While I understand that busy families balancing a job and children often find ready meals an easier option than cooking from scratch, I do feel more should be done to raise awareness surrounding food choices as this will lead to long-term health problems and further pressure on an overstretched health service.
