Mother and daughter, 8, die in blaze

A MOTHER and her eight-year-old daughter died in a house fire yesterday.

A 34-year-old man and a five-year-old boy were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police believe they were members of the same family.

Police and fire crews were called to the fire in Collingham, Nottinghamshire, early yesterday morning.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Inspector Richard Stapleford said firefighters removed the five family members from the property and ambulance crews were on the scene to provide treatment there and en route to hospital.

He said: “Despite their best efforts it is with sadness that I confirm a girl aged eight and a woman aged 33 have died following the incident.

“A five-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man remain in hospital with serious injuries. A 53-year-old woman was led to safety and looked after at the scene.”
