Apprentice star Sian ‘fearless’ after crash

- By Ed Gleave

THE APPRENTICE finalist Sian Gabbidon has told how narrowly escaping death in a car crash has made her fearless.

The swimwear entrepreneur was 15 when the collision left her unconscious and with facial injuries.

Sian, 25, said: “I remember waking up in the ambulance. My dad was there. My teeth were all smashed in. And I just had no idea what was going on. It was a really bad crash.

“The car that smashed into us set on fire afterwards.

“And realistically if we had been sat in different positions, we don’t know what would have happened. There were no fatalities in the crash. But the injuries were bad. The guy who was in the front broke his leg and nose.

“It could have ended in the worst way. I feel lucky to be here. I didn’t really think about it at the time. When you’re a teenager you don’t think about stuff in that way. But I look back now and think it must have been such a tough time for my parents.”

Tonight Sian will be seen battling it out tonight against nut milk company founder Camilla Ainsworth, 22, to become Lord Sugar’s business partner and receive his £250,000 investment. Sian of Leeds

has refused to let the ordeal destroy her spirit. She said: “It was an awful time. I was just about to do my GCSEs and I wasn’t in a good state because everything was swollen.

“So I could have quite easily not bothered with my exams.

“But I said to myself, ‘This isn’t going to stop me from doing what I want to do and getting to where I want to be’. So I did the exams.

“It definitely changed my outlook. That happened immediately. Straight afterwards it had a massive effect on me. Pretty much straight away I wanted to move on from it.

“I didn’t want to spend my life sitting in the background.”

Meanwhile rival Camilla from Blackburn has told how she has been the target of ageism because she is just 22.

She said: “There is a lot of ageism in the later end of life, of course. “But it’s also a common occurrence when you’re young in business.

“When you’re in your 20s people don’t take you seriously. That sort of thing could really discourage some people.

“But I wouldn’t allow it to do that to me.” The Apprentice, BBC One, today, 9pm.
