Respect for fathers
N
OT a day goes by when the institutions which are supposed to serve this country and underpin its values actually chip away at them instead.
Today, in this newspaper, the Centre for Social Justice has revealed how the NHS appears to be marginalising and ignoring fathers, by using gender neutral language such as “birth partners”.
All this is to play to activists who complain about how lesbian couples, single mothers or transgender people might be insulted by the word “father”.
We would describe this as a sinister development that threatens to harm society rather than help minority groups.
As the CSJ and Fatherhood Institute have pointed out, many social problems in young people are actually caused by the lack of a father figure in their lives.
Dads should be celebrated and included, not ignored.
