The Boston Tea Party was also a significant event in the desire of the patriots to seek independence.

When the British Government responded by passing the Intolerable Acts in 1774, which ended self-governance in Massachusetts and closed Boston’s commerce, the patriots throughout the Thirteen Colonies saw this as an attack on their freedom and liberties.

The prolonged crisis eventually escalated into the American Revolution which began near Boston in 1775 and ended in a resounding victory for the patriots and the birth of the United States of America.

One of the legacies of the Boston Tea Party was that Founding Father John Adams, who became the second president of the United States – and many other prominent Americans – decided tea-drinking was unpatriotic.
