Tek’s salt has smell of success
INVESTMENT firm TekCapital is hoping to get a share price boost and market rerating next year as one if its portfolio companies is on track to release “the NutraSweet of salt”.
Chief executive Clifford Gross said Tek’s food ingredients business Salarius has produced “MicroSalt”, refined salt crystals that although 100 times smaller than conventional products, have the same effect. It expects to go into production and distribution next year and is aimed at the low-salt market, which is estimated to be worth £1.4 trillion by 2025. “We’ve modelled this after NutraSweet,” Gross said. “First it will be available in packets and packages, then as an ingredient in products. It is big business in the making.”
AIM-listed Tek takes unused research and inventions from British universities and commercialises them.
