Man City 3 Everton 1 Jim Holden

PEP GUARDIOLA lavished praise on striker Gabriel Jesus after his double blast put Manchester City back on top of the Premier League.

Jesus scored twice against Everton, his first goals in the League for four months, and the City manager said: “He showed fight and personality.

“It is a big compliment for him and will be good for his confidence because strikers need to score goals.

“It was a dangerous game today because Everton have top players. I am so happy. “Now we have to recover and try to reach the semifinals of the League Cup by beating Leicester in midweek. It’s a competition to win, as we did last season.”

City will be top of the table for at least 24 hours, and longer if Liverpool fail to beat Manchester United today.

“Of course I will be watching that game,” said Guardiola. “It’s a nice game to watch.”
