Neighbour’s clue led to body of murdered author
A YOUNG neighbour of cesspit murder victim Helen Bailey gave police a vital clue that located her body, writes Ed Gleave.
The children’s writer, 51, had been missing for three months, despite a huge search. She had in fact been killed by partner Ian Stewart, who stole her money.
Police had almost given up hope of finding her when neighbour Mavis Drake’s daughter spoke to officers searching Ms Bailey’s home in Royston, Hertfordshire.
Mavis said: “It was my daughter that actually said ‘You know about the well?’ And within two hours, they had found her.”
Stewart was found guilty of murder in 2017 and jailed for 24 years.
Mavis appears in What The Killer Did Next, February 4, 9pm, on the Crime + Investigation channel.
