Dean’s big dream dashed in France

Sunday Express - - SPORT - Rensburg, Ruffenach. By Henry Talbot

NEWCASTLE director of rugby Dean Richards admitted his young Falcons side had found a “world-class” Montpellier side too good as their Champions Cup dream ended.

The French side’s forwards bossed the game and they scored through Timoci Nagusa and Yvan Reilhac before the break, then cut loose in the second period.

Henry Immelman added a brace of tries and Richards (above) said: “Montpellier have a huge amount of world-class players. You’ve got to be on your mettle to beat them and we weren’t quite.”

Newcastle’s only points in a disappointing performance came from a Toby Flood penalty and Zach Kibirige’s late try.
