Charity’s skydiver drops two stone
A man is to skydive from 15,000ft this week – after shedding two stone to make the jump’s weight requirements.
Hector Macleod tripled his intake of daily water, swapped his favourite Topic chocolate bar for a bunch of grapes and converted his leisurely evening walks into rigorous gym sessions to get into skydive shape.
He is supporting Befriending Lewis – who aim to combat social isolation on the Isle of Lewis – and has already raised more than £ 4500 of his £15,000 target.
On Thursday, he will take off from the UK’s highest skydive centre in Hibaldstow, Lincolnshire, in a bid to raise funds in a tandem jump.
Hector, who lives on Lewis, said: “When we launched Befriending Lewis last November, it was in response to feedback from our community that the service was urgently needed all around Lewis.
“I decided to lead by example and joined the first group of befrienders to go through the training.
“I have been befriending in the community for a few months and have seen first-hand what a positive experience it can bring.
“As I will be jumping from 15,000ft, we have set an ambitious fundraising target of £15,000 to match.
“I’m not great with heights but I really believe in the value of the work of Befriending Lewis.”
