He said: “I think the best period of my career is the last 12 years. I started winning more in that period than in the rest of my career before.

“But in my career, I’ve never won aMajor. I’ve been close sometimes but just missed out.

“So it would mean a lot if I win tomorrow. And to do it here in the Home of Golf, it would be fantastic.”

Broadhurst is hoping history can repeat itself, having won his first Senior Tour event in Scotland at the Scottish Seniors last August.

Now, as he ends his debut in a senior Major he’s hoping to mark that with f irst- time success too.

Broadhurst said: “You never know what could happen if I shoot a low score.

“Carnoustie is one of my favourite links courses. I had my best finish in The Open here so when I heard it was going to be my debut in the Senior Open, I was relishing it.”
