No Rabs regrets for Ross

-

Not ma ny Sc o t t i sh footballers would actually choose to make the move f rom K i lma rnock to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

But for the sake of his career, Ross Barbour took the plunge – and is now clawing his way back up the ranks.

The 23 - yea r - old is rebuilding his career at Stranraer after arriving there via Rob Roy, following his Rugby Park exit in February.

Barbour left Ki l lie by mutual consent after being told he wouldn’t be part of new gaffer Lee Clark’s plans.

But with the transfer window closed, the full-back was unable to sign for another Scottish club.

So he played Junior football to stay fit.

He’s now signed a one - ye a r de a l wi t h Stranraer and is gearing up for a Betfred Cup clash with Rangers at Ibrox tomorrow night.

Barbour told MailSport: “It wasn’t great how it ended at Ki l l ie. Because the transfer window had closed, I couldn’t sign for another senior club.

“I knew Rob Roy assistant Paul Ronald and he wanted me to go there for games.

“It was either sit around or play Junior football.

“I played a lot of games because of the f ixture backlog. Of course, it was a drop down in level. The pitches don’t help.

“But Stranraer has been a good move for me. It’s a club that’s looking to go forward.

“I still feel confident that I can get back to the top level again. But I have to take it step by step.”

Tomorrow night at Ibrox will give Barbour a taste of the big time again and he admits if Stranraer pick up anything it will be a bonus.

He said : “We’re not expected to get anything f rom the game so the pressure is off.

“The last time I went there with Killie in the Scottish Cup, people expected us to win and we lost 3- 0.”
