McCall we need stars fit

-

Ian McCall watched his Ayr side squeeze past the SPFL new boys and warned: We can’t do without key players.

City soaked up waves of pressu re and a lmost sneaked a penalty shoot-out after a storming finish that saw them twice go close.

McCall said: “The goal that won it was great but the rest of the game was rubbish.

“Give Edinburgh City great credit because they stuck right at it.

“Last season we went four months without five or six key players but we won’t be able to do that again.

“We need big players like Craig Moore and Jamie Adams in the team. We will need everybody up to speed for the Championship.

“We now go to Livingston on Tuesday and if we win I would like to think that nine points would be enough.

“I just hope we don’t live to regret the 93rd-minute goal we lost at St Mirren.”

Ayr, who had four players making their debuts, took the lead in 11 minutes when Brian Gilmour chipped keeper Andrew Stobie.

But the goal scorer limped off before the break with a hamstring strain to be replaced by Paul Cairney.

Ayr were on top for long spells and Jamie Thomas, on loan from Burnley, almost scored with a low drive from 20 yards.

City boss Gary Jardine said: “We dominated the leagues we were in with hard work and playing a certain way but now we have to learn to play a different way and have to do it fast.”
