Bonus no perk for Baz
John Gibson’s sudden-death penalty save did little to cheer up raging Barry Ferguson who blasted Clyde blunders for denying him three points.
Gibson stopped Graeme Beveridge’s spot- kick to rescue a bonus point after Jordan Lowdon had put the home side 6-5 up.
But Ferguson was fuming that the game was forced to a shootout. He said: “The mistakes that led to their goal was a bit of a bummer.
“Wee mistakes can kill you and that could’ve happened today.”
Clyde commanded most of the first period without making the breakthrough before Berwick’s Steven Thomson came closest to scoring with an inswinging corner on 42 minutes.
But four minutes into the restart, Clyde’ s Peter MacDonald broke the deadlock after being fed by David Gormley before dinking a shot over keeper Sean Brennan.
MacDonald came within inches of doubling his tally when he fired a close-range shot against the bar.
A two-footed tackle by Berwick’s Lee Hamilton on Scott Linton sparked a mass shoving match.
And minutes later Berwick equalised when Jordyn Sheerin capitalised on Phil Johnston’s blunder, cut inside the box and drilled the ball under Gibson.
Brennan then pulled off a superb one-handed save to claw away Gormley’s 10-yard volley to take it to penalties.
Berwick boss John Coughlin said: “On another day we might have nicked it but to lose on penalties is always a sore one.”
