BEN’S MUM I STILL HOPE FOR A FAIRYTALE ENDING
Kerry Needham – whose son Ben went missing 25 years ago today – has a recurring dream that she finds him alive and well.
Kerry, 42, said: “He’s a happy young man, living with another family.
“But then he rejects me. I wake up, realise it’s just a dream and there’s sti ll a chance for the fairytale ending.”
Her son’s disappearance from the Greek island of Kos is one of Britain’s longest missing person’s inquiries.
Kerry added: “It has been 25 years of torment.
“That’s when the life we dreamed of turned into a nightmare. We didn’t think we would get through 25 days, let alone a quarter of a century.”
South Yorkshire Police launched a new investigation into Ben’s disappearance last April.
It was backed by £ 1million funding from the Home Office. They have eliminated 30 people suspected to be him from their inquiries but have said the investigation is ongoing.
They said a “small number” of other people have still to be ruled out.
Ben, aged 21 months, vanished on July 24, 1991, a few months after his family started a new life in Greece. After his disappearance, Greek police failed to put checks on ferries leaving Kos for the mainland and it was only two days later that the authorities at the island’s airport were notified.
Despite more than 300 sightings since, Ben has never been found.
