He said: “I needed that break. There isn’t time to catch breath now until after the Premier League next year. Every top player is trying to pace himself for a good run in the World Championships.
“But that doesn’t mean anyone is taking the tournaments beforehand lightly.
“The best preparation for the Worlds is to win a Major. In the past my form has always built up well when I went into it in winning form. I just need to step it up again like I did the past two years.
“Dublin hasn’t been that kind to me in recent years but there’s no explanation for that. I love it, the atmosphere is sensational and us Scots usually get a decent reception.
“It’s just one of those places I’ve not had the best of luck. I was genuinely pleased to get to the semi-finals in the Champions League recently. I was far from my best but I still won my opening three matches.
“That can be a useful springboard now towards the next few months. But I’d love to win a Major before we get back to the Ally Pally in December.”
Anderson is the biggest name on tonight’s card, although defending champion Robert Thornton is also in action and starts against Stephen Bunting.
James Wade’s clash with Terry Jenkins and Adrian Lewis’ tie with Jelle Klaasen are other big games on the first night, which ends in a showdown between Mervyn King and Raymond van Barneveld.
