Steven Hammell insists Motherwell’s flirt with the Premiership peak isn’t finished with Friday night’s defeat to Hearts.
The Fir Park defender admits the disappointment over failing to get a win which would have pulled them temporarily level on points with Aberdeen.
A 3-1 loss to the Jambos isn’t a setback which the full-back intends to dwell on and he’s adamant they merited more from the game.
He said: “It’s so tight in the league, and it’s going to be up until the split.
“With four or five games unbeaten, you’ l l f ind yourself shooting up into the top half or top four.
“And if you go on a losing run, then you’ll end up at the bottom.
“Everybody will be going into their games thinking they can win. There’s not a lot in it apart from two or three teams. We believe we are one of those teams and want to prove it.”
The 34-year- old believes the loss of an own goal from Stephen McManus before stunning strikes f rom Cal lum Paterson and Arnaud Djoum didn’t put a fair reflection on a scoreline which was narrowed with a late wonder goal from James McFadden.
He said: “I don’t think there was a lot in the game.
“But we lost the first goal at the wrong time. The second was an unbelievable strike. The three goals could have been prevented, but the first changes everything”
