Celebs splash out on designer’s swimwear after she was inspired by trip to the Far East
Kirsty Marshall made a smart move giving up a possible career as a neurologist to become one of the country’s most promising young fashion designers.
Kirsty, 26, of Falkirk, had been accepted to study neuroscience at Dundee University.
But after swapping medical school to study textile design at art school, she took the plunge and launched her own range of bold and colourful swimwear. Now her designs have graced the pages of style bible Cosmopolitan, are set to go on sale in a top high street retailer and have been worn by the stars of TV shows including Ex On The Beach and Geordie Shores.
And the ta lented designer has no regrets about her career choice.
She said: “A few months after I started art school, my dad gave me a clip of a job ad from a hospital near where I live, looking for a neurologist, and the wa ge wa s a rou nd £100,000.
“I keep telling my dad I’ll be fine and I’ve got no regrets turning my back on a £100,000 salary.
“I tell him all I need is a glue stick and a sketch book and I’ll work with that.
“Being a neurologist would have been OK but I’m doing what I really love and I’m delighted by the success I’ve had already.”
Kirsty admits that on graduating from Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, she had no desire to head down to London in search of an internship with a leading fashion house.
She always wanted to set up her own company in Scotland, making her own designs, so she took off for a three-month trip to the Far East in search of inspiration.
