Winless woe has to end says Gaz

Edinburgh City .. 1 Elgin..................... 2

Gary Jardine admitted his League Two new boys are at a “crossroads” as Edinburgh City’s wait for a first league win continued.

Chris Dodd’s strike had the Meadowbank side one down just three minutes in with Thomas Reilly doubling Elgin’s lead before half-time.

Despite a much-improved second-half performance, Douglas Gair’s 77th-minute penalty was all last season’s Lowland League champions had to show for it.

City boss Jardine said: “We are at a crossroads just now.

“We’ve improved year in, year out but I’ve asked the boys if this is the best level they can make or are they with me in taking Edinburgh City to the next step.”

Edinburgh switched off within minutes of kick- off as Dodd was gifted too much time and his mishit cross left keeper Andrew Stobie in no man’s land.

It set the tone for the first 45 minutes as a fingertip save from Stobie denied Elgin with their next attack.

And it seemed City failed to learn their lesson after conceding early on, going two down when Reilly slid in to divert a low cross home.

Jardine’s decision to introduce Jordan Caddow at the break in place of defender Joe Mbu sparked City into life with the striker hav ing two goalbound headers saved by Elgin loan keeper Marc Waters.

Ousman See then had an effort cleared off the line after Waters misjudged a long ball before his header was well cleared.

But when the former Selkirk striker’s twists and turns in the area prompted a foul, up stepped skipper Gair to halve the deficit.

Despite that boost City couldn’t manage a leveller and they remain bottom of the table with just three points from nine games.
