Pro deal first for the Girls

-

Glasgow Girls have made Scottish women’s football history after announcing they have signed two of their players on pro contracts.

Despite playing in the second tier, the club are the f irst in Scotland to dish out pro deals with Lauren Coleman and Lauren Evans both signing contracts.

Glasgow City remain the benchmark for all others though and it will be a shock if they lose to the Girls in today’s SSE Scottish Women’s Cup semi-finals.

City went out of the Champions League at the last- 32 stage in midweek with a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Eskilstuna of Sweden.

But the champions will be hoping to get back on track on domestic duty.

Hibs had their Champions League dream halted by mighty Bayern but Abi Harrison will never forget the spectacular goal she scored in Munich in the 10-1 aggregate loss.

Hibs meet Hearts in the Cup today and the memory of that 25-yard cracker will help drive the 18-year- old on in the derby.

The Hibees forward said: “It’s one I will remember forever which is weird when you think we lost 10-1 over the two legs.

“When I saw it going in … we needed that moment, it made all the hard work worthwhile.

“You are always anxious coming off the back of such a big game but we will keep our heads and aim to finish the season on a high.

“Despite Hearts being in the division below there is always rivalry between the Edinburgh teams.”

Anything other than a Hibs v City final next month would be an upset.

But before then are the last two league games of the season with the champions taking on Hibs next week in a showdown where even a draw for City would seal a 10th straight title.
