Sanchez has a hand in win

-

Scotland full-back Andy Robertson revealed ref Mark Clattenburg apologised to Hull for allowing Alexis Sanchez’s opening goal to stand.

The Chile frontman (below) clearly handled the ball into the net in the 34th minute to put Arsenal in front.

Sanchez then sealed victory from the penalty spot in added time after Tigers midfielder Sam Clucas was sent off for handball on the line.

Robertson said:

Arsenal ..................... 2 Hull City .................... 0

“The referee’s apologised to us and said there was a handball so he’s obviously looked at it at half-time and seen he was in the wrong. “It happened so quickly that it’s a tough one for the ref and you’ve got to kind of feel sorry for him. “But it’s killed us at the end of the day because if we go in with the score 0-0 at half-time I think we would have come away with some points.”

After back-to-back defeats the win gave Arsenal a much needed victory ahead of their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich this week.

But the controversy didn’t end with Sanchez as Kieran Gibbs avoided a sending off for fouling Lazar Markovic with the Hull winger through on goal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: “I am responsible for many things but not for the referee’s decisions so I feel sorry for Hull.”
